FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Following a powerful and far-reaching theatrical run, the feature documentary The Line We Crossed is now available to buy or rent online.
The film began its theatrical release in summer 2025 and went on to screen more than 70 times over five months. Screenings took place across the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland, and in The Netherlands. Most screenings were followed by compelling post-film discussions with participants in the film and local climate and human rights campaigners.
“There is something very special about watching a film like this with a community,” says the film’s director Liz Smith. “The discussions that follow create a space to process, reflect, and think about how we can work together to protect our democratic rights and our planet.”
In-person theatrical and community screenings of The Line We Crossed will continue into 2026. Organisations or groups interested in hosting a screening are encouraged to get in touch.
The film is now entering the next phase of its journey with its online release. The Line We Crossed is available to stream via Vimeo, where audiences can buy or rent the film directly. Vimeo was chosen as the launch platform for its high-quality, ad-free viewing experience and its strong support for independent filmmakers, allowing creators to retain the majority share of revenue.
Additional online platforms will be explored in the future to further expand access to the film, including more widely used streaming and video-sharing services. For now, Vimeo marks the beginning of The Line We Crossed’s streaming release.
Every purchase or rental of The Line We Crossed directly supports the filmmakers’ ongoing work producing human rights documentaries.
The Line We Crossed locked in March 2025 and it ended with the news of The Whole Truth Five sentencing – the longest ever for nonviolent protest action – and that Just Stop Oil were “hanging up their hi-vis”. The story of the repression of UK protest rights has continued unabaited since. The film documents the emergence of Defend Our Juries. Since then, in the words of Jonathon Porritt, “Defend Our Juries has probably become the single most important NGO in the UK today in terms of people’s human rights.” As thousands of people have joined the Lift The Ban campaign, Page75 Productions has continued to document these events and have produced two short films that are available to watch on YouTube, REQUIEM FOR PROTEST and REQUIEM FOR PROTEST II
“As I was observing the absurd sight of gentle, peace-loving people being arrested for terrorism and being carried off by the police, it felt like I was witnessing the death of our protest rights and so my brief for composer Kim Halliday was to write a requiem.” Liz Smith, director of Requiem For Protest
